12-10-2009 %91TW 93r City of las Cruces 1 PEOPLE NELPINO PEOPLE 2 3 Minutes 4 LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING 5 Thursday, December 10, 2009 6 7 1 Call to Order—President Ford Ballard called the meeting to order at 3 12 p.m. 8 upon a quorum being obtained. Board Members Present: President Ford Ballard, Secretary 9 Debbie Rindge, Terry Johnston, Pat Pederson and Diana Youngren, Robert Branshaw was not in 10 attendance. Others in attendance Lon Grumet, Public Services Director; Lynette Schurdevin, 11 Interim Library Administrator; James Mitchell, Administrative Assistant. 12 2. Review of October 22, 2009,minutes. Motion was made to approve minutes as 13 corrected. 14 3 Committee Reports 15 a. Friends of TBML-Arlene Dohr was submitted for the Mayor's Award but it is 16 unsure at this time if she will be recognized. The Friends store is running well. Fundraising 17 Chair is still to be decided. The Chautauqua planned for January 14 at Good Samaritan entitled 18 "Journey of the Heart" is on schedule. The next meeting is planned for January 16, 2010 19 4 Library Administrator's Report- 20 In addition to the published Administrator's report updates to the Library's Strategic Plan 21 will be tied to the City's Strategic Plan. Staff goals have been added to the plan with a final to be 22 presented in January The winner of the Penny Design contest will be honored in December 23 The staff WikiPage will be updated by Louanne Cook-Noel,taking the task over from Bnta I Sauer Due to the holidays there will be no computer classes offered for December,but will 2 resume in January The staff party will be held in the evening on December 11, instead of a gift 3 exchange donations will be made to Jardin de los Nino's. December 16th, snacks will be offered 4 throughout the day in the employee's break room for all staff, Friends, and Board members. Lon 5 and Lynette met at San Andres High School to look at partnering with the school to have a public 6 outlet in that area. Staffing and security were discussed as well as the need to have an area 7 designated for books and computers. Dr Phillips stated there was a need for long tern 8 partnership with the library and schools, having an opportunity to go outside city buildings with 9 needed branches. 10 It was announced that the position vacated by Bnta Saur would not be immediately filled 11 due to managed budget reductions. Lynette recommended that the Library be closed December 12 26 for observing the holidays, a motion to recommend this closure to the City Manager was made 13 by Terry Johnston and seconded by Debbie Rindge. The motion carred and a memo will be sent 14 to the City Manager for approval. 15 Mark Pendleton will return on January 4th, his delay in returning was due to the passing 16 of lus father; the Advisory board will make a donation in his memory Jean Lozier, long term 17 volunteer at the Library and the Cultural Center,passed away;. 18 5 Unfinished Business 19 a. Ms. Grumet stated she had received 15 solid applications for the position of 20 Library Administrator Interviews would be held in January with the interview team made up of 21 representatives from the Advisory Board, League of Women Voters, and the community; Dr 22 Phillips from the Public Schools, Human Resources, and Ms. Grumet will also serve on the 23 team. She expects the new Administrator to be on board by February or March. I Ms. Grumet has not received any updates regarding the Bramgan Estate. The disposal of 2 the Bookmobile has been approved with 50%of the sale price going to Library Services for the 3 County 4 6 New Business 5 Some Board members are coming to the end of their appointments.
