Call to order at 3:00 p.m. 6 7 Members Present: Locket Ford Ballard, Jr., Terry D Johnston, Patricia A. 8 Pedersen, Robert Branshaw, Debora Rmdge, and Diana Youngren. 9 ABSENT: Noma Stacey 10 Other Attendees: Lori Grumet, Public Services Director; Catherine Christmann, 11 Library Manager;Eva Anaya,Administrative Assistant. 12 H. Review of March 26,2009 minutes 13 14 Diana Youngren moved to accept the minutes as presented. Terry D Johnston 15 seconded. The motion carred 6.0 16 III. Committee Report—Terry D.Johnston,Liaison of Friends of TBML 17 18 Ms. Terry D Johnston reported that the Friends of the Library now have 184 19 paid members. The Friends currently meet every-other-month but will discuss meeting 20 monthly at their next meeting in June. Because the Public Relations Officer has not 21 attended the last two meetings, Arlene Dohr has volunteered to fill the slot. Ilene 22 Monahan, Joe Banks, and Sandy Miles have volunteered to fudge the bookmark 23 contest. As of April 11th, the Book Store has earned $5,820 15 The Friends of the 24 Library donated money for a Library Staff's retirement party The next Book Review 25 will be in May Because the Dresp Meeting Room will not be available, Sandy Miles 26 and Louise Forshaw are looking for a suitable location for the Book Reviews. A 27 beautiful quilt has been donated for a fund raising this fall. Funds will be used to 28 purchase special equipment for the new Children's Room. The cook books should be 29 ready in June. The next Author's Luncheon will be on September 20th at the Picacho 30 Hills Country Club. Tickets will be$20.00 �31 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Thursday, April 23, 20091 1 I IV. Library Administrator's Report 2 Ms. Catherine Chnstmann, Library Manager, covered for Ms. Kathleen Teaze, 3 Library Administrator, who was out of town at an NMLA Conference in Albuquerque 4 Ms. Chnstmann reported that she attended the meeting of the City Architects and the 5 Construction Company which will be doing the reconstruction of the meeting rooms. 6 The construction will start the second or third week of May This means that the Dresp 7 AB room will not be available for meetings through the end of the year It was asked 8 if there is a list of meeting rooms available throughout the City Ms. Grumet stated that 9 there is not a list and the only free rooms available in the City are through churches or 10 the Library The city has other meeting rooms, but charges for their use. The 11 Children's Programs have been moved to the Bramgan Cultural Center and most of the 12 Library adult programs have been moved to the Terrace Gallery The movies have 13 been cancelled because they have site specific licenses. It would cost the Library an 14 extra$200 00 to show the movies elsewhere. 15 a) Strategic Plan: Tabled 16 b) Memo to City Council for Computer Center in Old City Hall building 17 Ms. Grumet, Public Services Director, handed out copies of a letter from 18 Mr Garza, Assistant City Manager, explaining a City website which includes 19 a tour of the two City buildings and a short survey for patrons to state their 20 ideas on what they feel should be done with the two old buildings. 21 V. Unfinished Business: 22 a) Recommendation to sign over Bookmobile to County 23 The Bookmobile project has been forwarded to Mr Terrence Moore, City 24 Manager 25 VI. New Business: 26 Mr Ford Ballard asked if the Native American arts in the Library holding have 27 ever been put together in an exhibit at one of the City's museums. Ms. Grumet 28 explained that at one time the Library was the City Museum and most of the artifacts 29 the Library has were on display and others have since gone back to their owners. Some 30 of them are in the Branigan collection at the Cultural Center and have not been out of • 31 their cases in the last 20 years. Ms. Grumet discussed the current art collection stored at the Library Ms. 2 Debora Rmdge, who is an art historian, asked Ms. Grumet to call her if she ever needs 3 help with the art collection. 4 VII. Announcements: 5 It was asked if the book drops will be returned to their original site. Ms. Grumet 6 unformed them that the book drops will be returned when the yard work is completed. 7 Mr Branshaw asked about the Quality of Life Tax. Ms. Grumet responded 8 that the Parks Administrator did not have enough money to take care of the ball fields. 9 He felt he would have to charge or close down some of the fields. A thorough study 10 was done and an Ad-hoc committee was formed. After about six months, the 11 committee addressed the City Council to ask for a raise in the gross receipt tax, '/4 of 12 1%, to get the ball fields up to par and not have to charge the kids to play ball. The 13 City Council favored the idea of a Quality of Life Tax instead. Esther Martinez, City 14 Clerk, explained that 2,632 signatures of valid registered voters are needed for an 15 ordinance to be prepared for the Council to pass the tax. Ms. Alice Cox, whose family 16 is very active in sports, said she would put the petition forward. The petition will still 17 need to go before the City Council, if the City Council defeats the petition, it will then 18 go on the November ballots for the community to vote on. 19 Ms. Terry Johnston asked for the status on the new City Hall building. Ms. 20 Grumet informed the Board that the building is now 70%completed and expected to be 21 finished by the end of September 22 VIII. Public participation: Nothing to report 23 IX.
