02-25-2010 TAjW City of Las Cruces 1 PEOPLE N E L P I N G PEOPLE 2 3 Minutes 4 LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING 5 Thursday, February 25, 2010 6 7 1 Call to Order—President Ford Ballard called the meeting to order at 3.03 p.m. 8 Board Members Present: President Ford Ballard, Vice President Diana Youngren, Terry 9 Johnston, and Debbie Rindge, Secretary Others in attendance- Lon Grumet, Public Services 10 Director; Lynette Schurdevin, Interim Library Administrator, and James Mitchell, Administrative 11 Assistant. 12 2. Review of January 28, 2010 minutes. Corrections were made as to form and content. 13 Motion was made and seconded to approve minutes as corrected, motion passed. 14 3 Committee Report 15 a. Friends of TBML- Ms. Johnston reported that there were 113 persons present at 16 the January Chautauqua at Good Samaritan. The budget for Friends of the TBML 17 was approved at the January meeting; income for the Month was $682.55 There 18 are 261 paid members in the Friends and a new Publicity Chairman has been 19 elected. Friends provided pizza for Staff Appreciation on February 19`h and 20`h 20 4 Library Administrator's Report- 21 The published Administrator's report was distributed. It was noted that the Munson 22 Center remained closed and Mark Mumper was performing what duties he could for the 23 Munson patrons from the library Lynette stated that the contractors should be back to re- I start the work on the Campo Terrace Room and the Dresp rooms next Wednesday Work 2 is still progressing on establishing reading areas in several County community centers as 3 well as the San Andres High School. 4 5 Unfinished Business 5 a. Ms. Grumet stated that she has not heard from the Mayor's office regarding the 6 recognition of Arlene Dohr It was asked if a resolution could be introduced to 7 the City Council to declare an"Arlene Dohr Day" Lon and Lynette will look into 8 the possibility 9 b When asked about the hiring process of a new Library Administrator,Ms. Grumet 10 stated that she is doing a final check on the references for the two remaining 11 candidates. If she and the panel cannot make a decision at that point,the position 12 will be re-announced. 13 c. James will check the status of each Board Members appointment to determine 14 which positions need to be filled. 15 d. Lynette will contact Larry to have him in attendance during the next board 16 meeting to answer questions so that the board can vote to adopt the Strategic Plan. 17 6 New Business—No new business 18 7 Announcements—No announcements. 19 8.
