12-18-1962 December 18, 1962 293 The Board of Trustees of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library met on Tuesday, December 18th, 1962, in the.Librarian's Office. Members present were Mrs. Swartz, Mr. Fariss, Mr. Taylor, besides the Librarian and Secretary of the Board, Miss Caffey. Mr. Taylor presided. Minutes of the.November 29th meeting were approved as read. Miss Caffey reported that Mrs Rowena Burns had been employed as of January 1st, 1963, as an assistant librarian to fill the new position on the staff. Miss Caffey reported that Mr. Shannon will contact the City Manager concerning the hazardous condition of the sidewalk at 122 W. Hadley. Mr. Taylor discussed the curbing around the front yard that had been removed at 122 W. Hadley. He thought that perhaps this curbing had been installed there originally to protect the grounds from water that might overflow from Hadley Avenue. hiss Caffey was instructed to ask Mr. Shannon to look into this matter. Mr. Taylor reported on the Library properties: 1. Two rooms in the Library Annex at 500 N. Water Street had been rented to Mr. Jim Davenport. The rooms had been repaired and the cost amounted to $72.00 for labor and materials. Mr. Taylor had obtained an estimate from Mr. Marland Blevins for repainting and repairing 3 moms in Dr. Drake's Offices - which had not been attended to when the rest of his offices were repaired. The cost will be $80.00 for labor and repairs on 3 rooms, two of which are small. This work will also entail touching up where the _ new vents for the Air Coolers were installed. Mrs. Swartz moved that Mr. Taylor be authorized to hire Mr. Blevins to do this work. . Mr. Fariss seconded. Motion carried. Mr. Taylor further reported that the water lines in the yard had been replaced by Meyer Davison Plumbing at a cost of $70.23- 2. House at 406 W. Las Cruces Avenue. The folding door had now been installed by the Wofford Construction Company. They had also repaired a small leak under the eaves. Miss Caffey reported that the flag pole in the Library yard, repaired by the city some time ago appeared to be loosening and might prove to be hazardous. The rope for the flag has disappeared, probably stolen. Mr. Taylor will check again with Mr. Barrick concerning the plans for the mural to be painted in the Adult Reading Room. Mr. Fariss requested Miss Caffey to ask the City Clerk to send a copy of the City Ordinances concerning the Library to each Board Member. As there was no further business, the meeting adjourned.
