03-05-1968 SP Mtg i 331. A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE BRANIGAN LIBRARY HELD THE DAY. OF MARCH 5, 1968 This meeting was called by general consent of all of the members of the Board to consider the present necessity of securing for the Library an assistant librarian, and the consideration of an increase in Miss Caffey's salary. In the discussion of the project it was brought out that since the retire- ment of-Mrs. Gertrude Humphries there is no one inthe employ of the Library that has the education and experience needed to take over the duty of librarian in case of an emergency, such as the absence of the librarian. It appears the librarian was unable to take her annual leave this year on account of this factor. It was considered that steps should be taken at once to remedy this situation and employ ah assistant librarian with the educational and other requirements essential to the proper maintenance of the library, who would be qualified to take over the duties of librarian, and who would have the opportunity to familiarize herself wit* the present procedure. 2t was also brought out that as Miss Caffey's present salary of *7;300.00 is far below normal as skUttos are being at the present time, that heysalary should be increased. At the end of the discussion it was moved by Mrs. Roach and .seconded by Mrs. Swartz that the following resolution be adopted. Be it resolved by the Library Board of the Branigan Library that the librarian, Miss Helen Caffey, is hereby directed to make dilligent and immediate efforts to locate a eoppetent assistant.having all the education and legal requirements to fill the position, who shall receive, upon employ- ment a commensurate salary not less than $6,000.00 a year#, and it to fhrther resolved that Miss Caffey 's clary be increased to at least 18,000.00 a year„ and that the City Commission and Manager be advised of this action of the Library Board. Adopted by the unanimous vote of the Library Board this 5th day of March 1968. hairnan Librarian and secretary to the Board t
