10-29-1968 Oetobber 29, 1968 337 October 29, 1968 The Board of Trustees of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library met on Tuesday, October 29, 1968 in the Librarian's Office. Members present were Mrs. Swartz, Mrs. Roach, Ar. Bunyea, Mr. Taylor, besides the Librarian and Secretary of the Board, Miss Caffey. Mr. Taylor presided. Minutes of the September 24th meeting were approved.as read. Miss Caffey reported on the research that she had been doing on the past minutes of the Board, and told of some- of the interesting items that she had read. Mr. Taylor instruxted the secretary to include some of these items in these minutes. Items: Mr. Ben Newell, mayor of Las Cruces in 1935, wrote a letter on March 4, 1935, appointing the first members of the Libraryf awa Mr. Shannon, Mrs. Swartz, Mrs. O.H. Brown and Visa Peters. Mr Newell as mayor was Chairman of the Board. Thelfirat Board meeting was held on March " 1935. mho Town Board in May 1935 voted that xroatiha should be placed on the Branigangraves each Memorial Day. Shannon had been recently eleEted Chairman of the New Mexico State Library Planning Board. On June 29, 1942 tbbeftffd voted to allow no sobLng in the Ubrar7. Mr. Taylor appointed Mr; Bunyea to draw up the wording for the Shannon plaque, which information will be submitted to the City Commission as stated in , in the minutes of the Board dated September 29, 1968 Mr. Taylor reported that he had authorized the purchase of a cover for the new air cooler installed in,the houseset 406 W. Las Cruces Avenue. Mrs. A.F. Burr attended the meeting as an obeserver for the League of �m voters. As these was no further business, the meeting adjourned. Reppebtfully submitted
