11-26-1968 November 26, 1968 pie Board of Trustees of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library met on Tues- day, November 26, 1968, in the Librarian's office. Members present were Mrs. averts, Mrs. Roach, Mr. Fielder, Mr. Taylor, besides the Librarian and aecretary of the Board, Miss Caffey. Mr. Taylor presided. Minutes of the October 29th meetings were approved as read. - Mrs. Swartz expressed her appreciation to the Board for the naming of the Nast Children's Room in honor of her. She will supply Miss Caffey with the pertinent information £or .the engraving on the plaque. Miss Caffey reported that she had been trying to find an assistant librarian to take the place of Mrs. Humphries who retired January 1, 1968. She expressed concern as she plans to retire within a couple of years and feels that a new person taking over the Librarian's position should have some experience and training in the Branigan Library before this time. Mrs. Roach moved that Miss Caffey continue to search and take what additional steps are needed to obtain an assistant Librarian, including if necessary, advertising in professional period- icals. Mr. Fielder seconded. Motion carried. It wasmoved by Mr. Fielder and seconded by Mrs. Roach that an early meeting of the Library Board with the Mayor, the City Manager, and the City's Personnel Director be called with regard to the Boards concern for a replacement for Miss Caffey when she retires, the necessity for the budgeting of an adequate salary commensurate with professional training and experience, and our concern for the same type salary being provided Miss Caffey during her remaining tenure with the Branigan Library. The Library Board asked Mr. Taylor to investigate the status concerning the Proposed purchase of ; the Still property for future Library expansion. Ittwas moved by Mrs. Swartz and seconded by Mr. Fielder that members of the legislature from Dome Ana County be informed of our librarianlb difficulties in purchasing library books because of state purchasing procedures and that these legislators be invited to discuss the situation with Miss Caffey. Motion carried. The Librarian was directed to send a copy of the portion of the minutes dealing with difficulty in book purchases to each of the legislators.
