08-31-17 CVBtAS CRUCES Advisory Board Meeting Thursday, August 31, 2017 9:00 am Members Present: Ana Berrun — Townplace Suites Marriot Craig Massey — NM Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum Shannon Vallez Duffy — Holiday Inn Express Las Cruces North Debra Marks — Las Cruces Symphony Association Vince Vaccaro — Lorenzo's Restaurant Others Present: Jennifer Bales (CVB), Chris Faivre (CVB) and Veronica Quezada (CVB) L CALL TO ORDER —The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.by Chairperson Duffy. II. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM June 22, 2017 Ms. Duffy called for a motioned to approve the minutes from the June 22, 2017 Advisory Board Meeting. Mr. Vaccaro moved to approve the motion. Mr. Massey seconded. All members were in favor. Passed 5-0. III. PRESENTATIONS AND REPORTS Executive Directors Report — Jennifer Bales — Rio Grande Theater has been doing extremely well. The Godfather event went well to include the Selena event that came close to selling out. Staff has been making a push with marketing and we continue to see good turnouts for these events. Chris Faivre has been chosen as the interim Venue Manager for the theater until someone is officially in this position. We are still attempting to find a Venue Manager and have reposted the position. We have received a preliminary approval for the liquor license, with the Godfather event and the fencing, tables and chairs seemed to work and will be considering getting tables and chairs to have for the theater for these types of events. I will be coordinating a walk through as soon as the developer states it is safe to see the new building. The Convention Center expansion is scheduled to be completed May of 2019. They will begin construction next year and will take a year to build, City Council meeting for this will be held on October 23rd. Sales Report — Native American catholic conference called Tekawitha has been booked and will bring in good numbers for 2021 Albert has been working with them and they are willing to come to Las Cruces. April 2019 Mission of Mercy is coming to the Convention Center, this organization offers a free dental clinic for those that don't have or can't afford dental work, brings a lot of people into town from surrounding areas. Media Report — Chris Faivre — Monuments to Main Street is kicking off this week with an event tomorrow at the plaza. Wayne Suggs will have his art on display at the theater. Guided hikes, airplane tours and events are scheduled for the month of September. We have received a google grant of $120,000 a year free from google. There are certain terms we must stay within in order to use this grant. Since the Friends of Las Cruces Inc supports the entire CVB we must use that domain but we can build content for the Rio Grande Theater, CVB and Country Music Festival to creating links. Agency out of Hatch is bringing three travel writers that are from the region including the Wall Street Journal and USA Today. With this group, they are also brining in three established chefs to learn local cuisine. Next weekend there will be a travel vlogger who travels the state and writes about it for the area. User sessions were up and page views were up. Will be getting a better picture with users on the new website. Visitor guide requests are out and doing well, been seeing more requests for them and are happy with the Bulletin and what they have done with the new guides. NEW BUSINESS No new business. V.
