10-22-1996 VETERANS AFFAIRS ADVISORY BOARD a Z'- CITY CITY OF LAS CRUCES P.O. DRAINER CLC 0 LAS CRUCES, REFI MEXICO 88004 22 October 1996 The board convened at 1300 in the Board Room of Branigan Library. Roll call was taken. Present were: Joe Heintz, Chairman; Warren Rogers Vice Chair & DAV rep; Elsa Baker, VVA rep; Noel Cooley, AMVETS rep; Robert Wiley, VFW rep; J J Dewey, American Legion rep; Quorum present. Also present were: James Milten, past chairman; Darlene Garcia, Senator Domenici rep. It was moved and seconded that the September minutes be accepted as written. Old Business: none. Committee Report: Elsa Baker, Veterans Park Committee Chair, said that the plans for the park are awaiting a topo survey of the added five acres donated to the site. The city is also working up the transfer of this added area from the builder to the city. A proposal is being worked up for the 1997 legislature for a grant of $400,000 for the development of the park. This must go through the city council. New Business: Veterans Day Parade is progressing. There will be a meeting of the parade committee on 24 Oct to finalize order of march and other details. Over 50 units will participate. DAV chap 10 is conducting a Forget-Me-Not drive Saturday 26 October in Las Cruces. Funds generated will be to aid veterans in distress. Motion passed to adjourn.
