Flores, Recording Secretary 14 Chair Marsha Burr called the Senior Programs' Advisory Board meeting to order at 9:00 16 a.m. on September 10, 2009, at the Munson Senior Center, 975 S. Mesquite Street. 18 MINUTES: It was moved by Glenn Bartelt and seconded by N. Boor that the minutes of 20 the August 13, 2009, Board meeting be approved as mailed. Motion adopted. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: Dolores Halls announced she was the recipient of the 22 2009 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service at the 31St New Mexico Conference on Aging held in Albuquerque, NM. 24 SENIOR PROGRAMS' ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT: Shelley Modell, Senior 26 Programs Administrator, distributed the Munson Senior Center accreditation committee assignments. The Committees consist of: Purpose, Community, Governance, 28 Administration and Human Resources, Program Planning, Evaluation, Fiscal Management, Records and Reports and Facility. Committees are comprised of staff 30 members, Advisory Board members, RSVP Council members, City elected officials, senior center participants and community businesses. Committee members will meet 32 with Alexandra Kiska to review the requirements for the National Standards for Senior Centers. All committee members will receive an introduction letter and a packet of 34 information at their respective committee meeting. This will be the first step in the accreditation process. 36 S. Modell provided an update on the Munson Senior Center renovation update. She 38 informed the Board the architects presented six different designs. Two designs were selected. At this time, there is a total of $900,000 for the remodeling project. This 40 funding will be used to pay for architect services to include drawings and floor plans, replace the roof, update the heating, cooling, ventilation system and repave the parking 42 lot. After further discussion, it was suggested that John Jarrard of Huitt-Zollars Inc., be invited to attend the next board meeting to provide an update on the Munson Senior 44 Center remodel/renovation project. Chair Burr noted the post in the entry way of Munson Center is in need of repainting. 46 The Board was updated on the central kitchen project. Staff will be meeting with the 48 design team and the architects at the end of December 2009 to review design plans. f' 1 Senior Programs Advisory Board Meeting Minutes September 10, 2009 Page 2 50 The 2009 Senior Programs Annual Service report was tabled until the next board meeting. 52 SENIOR PROGRAMS' STAFF REPORTS: Mike Simione, Nutrition Program Manager, 54 distributed the August 2009 monthly report for the congregate and home delivered meals programs. Also distributed were the 2009 and 2010 donation comparison reports. 56 M. Simione noted there has not been a decrease in donations as a result of the increase in the suggested donation from $2.00 to $2.50. The current average donations 58 for the month of August were as follows: Benavidez Center $1.78; East Side Center $1.29; Mesilla Park Center $1.93; and Munson Center $1.45. The units of service for 60 congregate meals are on target for the year. The Meals on Wheels units of service are down from the previous year. Flyers will be posted at nursing homes and around town 62 in an attempt to increase the Meals on Wheels units of service. 64 Sally Schutte, Senior Centers Manager, provided an update on the Recreation, Resource and Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). She reported Lori Luttrell, new Senior 66 Programs Recreation Supervisor, begins on November 1, 2009. She has a positive "can do" attitude. A candidate was selected to fill the part-time office assistant position, but 68 later declined the position. Candidate #2 will be contacted to see if the candidate is still interested in the position. The individual in this position will primarily work weekend and 70 evening events. She discussed other personnel issues she is currently working on. Additional recycling bins have been placed in Munson Center. Sage Cafe blue prints 72 have been sent to an engineering firm for review. Construction should begin in December 2009. S. Schutte discussed upcoming events such as the flu shot clinics scheduled for 74 October 5-8, 19 and 20 from 8-2 p.m. at Club Fusion, East Mesa and East Side Centers; 85th birthday Party celebration to be held October 30 from 2-4 p.m.; and Senior Expo on 76 Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9-12 p.m. at Munson Senior Center. She announced participants are not interested in attending the NMSU athletic games. Alexandra Kiska will be at 78 Munson Center September 17-18, 2009 to meet with each individual committee to review and discuss specific standards. The request for proposal for My Senior Center is being 80 reviewed by the Information Technology. Once specs are finalized, the request will be submitted to Purchasing Department for purchase. 82 PROGRAM SITE REPORTS: Vice Chair Huber, Benavidez Center representative, 84 reiterated the problem with the acoustics. It was suggested a quilt be purchased and hung in the dining room or tablecloths be placed on the tables to cut down on the noise. 86 Another possibility was to expand the serving time. She commended the hard working volunteers at the center. 88 Stanley Philips, East Side Center representative, reported East Side Center 90 participation has increased and as a result the dining room is not large enough to accommodate the influx of people. The center is averaging between 70-80 people a 92 day. It was suggested the meeting rooms also be set up with tables and chairs. Other, recommendations consisted of adding a second shift, dining in the patio, and relocating 94 the sign-in sheet. S. Modell announced East Side Center received an allocation of $30,000 to 96 correct code compliance issues. 98 UNFINISHED BUSINESS: M.
