Introductions 13 14 City staff introduced themselves and stated what department they were representing. 15 16 Il. Presentation 17 18 Mr. Eric Martin presented the power point on the Valley View Park — Heske Trust 19 project. Mr. Martin continued by presenting the 3 different concepts for the proposed 20 site. Concept #1 consisted of a designed Pergola, with a lot of bright floral landscaping. 21 Concept #2 consisted of a Gazebo, which would include rock wall, railing, and bright 22 floral landscaping. Concept#3 provided picnic tables, planters, and a stamped concrete 23 sidewalk. 24 25 III. Public Comments 26 27 Ms. Jean Bab (Heske caregiver), preferred the Garden concept and stated that would 28 be the one in which Ms. Heske would have preferred. She also stated that she would 29 have preferred a nice view of the mountains where the park would be situated. 30 31 Mr. Denmark stated that these concepts were still in the preliminary stages. And that the 32 Munson retention pond could not be an option for a location of expansion. 33 34 Mr. Art Cuanon asked whether the park would expand throughout the years i.e. 35 pathways throughout the park. 36 37 Mr. Ron Loutenbach inquired about the site having a water feature? What is the major 38 function of the park? He stated that a garden sitting area would create a lot of human 39 activity and much enjoyment. He also said that he would like to see more walking trails. 40 41 Ms. Renie Aguilar reiterated that the Horseshoe pits needed much improvement. And 42 that the park needed better walkways and more benches. Also, benches need to be 43 shaded by trees or covered by a canopy of some sort. 44 1 Diedre Parker stated that she likes the water feature concept with shaded areas. 2 Although she did not want walk paths right near her backyard (which is adjacent to the 3 park site). 4 5 Other citizens present, wanted to know the projected timeline to break ground? 6 7 Mr. Denmark stated that this project is a priority and that after the final design; they 8 would like to see it become a reality by spring of 2008. 9 10 Several more citizens, including Councilor Archuleta, stated that they had concerns 11 about the concept with the water feature. It will attract a lot of mosquitoes, an area for 12 trash to collect, and that they require much more maintenance. 13 14 Mayor Mattiace stated that producing posters and maybe putting out a suggestion box 15 would get more public input and knowledge of the project. 16 17 By the end of the meeting, it was gathered that the public really wants the horseshoe 18 pits to have priority. And the Gazebo concept had a good response, with some 19 reservations i.e. homeless, security, etc. 20 21 In closing, Mr. Denmark stated that he will address horseshoe pit upgrades and 22 required maintenance. And he will also look into fixing the walkways and trails along the 23 parkway. 24 25 ADJOURNMENT 26 27 With no further business, Mr. Denmark adjourned the June 27, 2006, at 7:10 p.m. 28 29 30 Mueller, Recording Secretary Eric Martin, Project Administra or
