A quorum was not obtained, no issues were voted on or recommendations made. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Kevin Dasing reported on the museum, advised of the status of the pending Rio Rancho museum. Advised of pending pamphlets for the Veteran Park Walk of Honor, ordered 5000, should arrive anytime. Kevin also advised of the Memorial Park Committee seeking donations for Phase II, for the inclusion of names from the Persian Gulf War and all additions and corrections from Phase I. OLD BUSINESS: The Veteran's Day parade was discussed, Kevin advised of a new termination point at the District Courthouse, staging still at Loretta Town Center. A complaint about the dedication plaque at Veterans Park was discussed, the issue was the names on the plaque, Dolores Archuleta will look into this. Kevin advised that there will soon be signs with directions to Veterans Park, the city will place them on Lohman, Roadrunner and Hwy 70. An informational pamphlet concerning the park is also being considered., this is still in progress. We discussed the events of Memorial Day, issue closed. NEW BUSINESS: The issue of the city or county to purchase a handicapped accessible van was discussed, this issue is on-going. The expansion of White Sands Missile Range expanding was discussed, due to the increased mission of Fort Bliss. Kevin advised about a statue at City Hall to honor the founder of Las Cruces, Delos Sackett; Kevin provided a handout with applicable information, this issue is on-going. Kevin discussed a possible Joe Hientz Day, Joe is a volunteer who has been helping veterans a long time, he is moving and we discussed the possibility of honoring him. Dolores Archuleta advised that she will work with City Council to possible proclaim July 3rd as Joe Heintz Day. We discussed the interest from Senator Bingaman's office concerning VA health care issues, planned a meeting later to further discuss these issues. The recent VA identity theft issue was discussed, JR advised that his office will be receiving brochures to help veterans with this issue. The issue of the Garrison Flag responsibility was discussed, with the possibility of the City Parks taking care of the flag, further discussion on this matter after checking with the city. The next Garrison Flag raising will be on July 4`h. We discussed the possibility of more picnic tables and water fountains, along with the addition of memorial trees and benches at Veterans Park, Dolores Archuleta advised that there is a master plan for the park, trees are included but there was no need for memorial benches. She advised that the city will look into adding more tables and water fountains. GOOD OF THE ORDER: No items were reported. NEXT MEETING: Meeting was adjourned at 10.15am.
