R. Turner - NM Veterans Services, D. McClanahan - Congressman S. Pierce, L. Garcia - Senator D. Domenici, R. Rizzutti - Senator J. Bingaman, M. Goldman - Senator J. Bingaman. Special Guest: Brian Denmark - City of Las Cruces, presenting complaint on color scheme of bathroom at Veterans Park. John Parker - former veteran Minutes of Last Meeting: None. Since creation of new Board, a quorom had not been obtained. No issues had been voted on or recommendations made. Committee Reports: Museum - Report by K. Dasing - waiting for capital outlay. Brick Sidewalk - Report by K. Dasing - still on hold, City cannot fund project, has to be a non-profit organization. Homeless Veterans Housing Project - Report by K. Dasing - grant writing for project to begin in Spring 06. Veterans Administration gave NM funds for more beds for veterans, money is there. Old Business : Discussion on number of members present needed to constitute a quorom. D. Reyna made a motion to make a point of rule requesting a clarification on this issue from Mr. Fermin Rubio, City Attorney. Seconded by K. Dasing. Councilor D. Archuleta will present to City Attorney. 0 New Business: Mr. Denmark presented a complaint from a concerned citizen as to the color scheme of the bathroom facility at Veterans Park. According to the complaint, the white and blue trim does not match with the earth tone brown scheme of the homes in the area of Roadrunner Parkway. Discussion followed. Motion made by L. Candelaria to table the request for the color change until such a time as more complaints are received and the issue will be taken up again. Motion seconded by all. Motion passed. May 19t'', 0815 hrs, Planning Committee for Run for the Wall will meet. Riders in the Run For the Wall will arrive at Veterans Park on 18 May 06. Sat Mar 4th, 10 am, a Welcome Home parade for the 126th MP Co, will take place, begins at Apodaca Park on Solano St. Small Business Conference for Vets scheduled for Mar 22 -23, at 0800 hrs, Best Western Mesilla Valley Inn. Joe Gomez, president of New Purple Heart Chapter 42004. A request will be made to the Federal Govt to set aside 100 acres of land west of Las Cruces for a national cemetery. Motion by L. Candelaria to support this request. Seconded by K. Dasing. Motion passed. Good of the Order: May 13`' @ 9am, Young Park, Armed Forces Day. All vet organizations are invited. Collection of names for Persian Gulf War to be installed at Veterans Wall in Vet Park, has started. Cost to add names is approx $44,000. Menudo Cook off at VFW 3242 on Mar 12 @ I Oam. Veterans Wall is now 501 (3) © - non-profit. L. Candelaria made a motion to adjourn, seconded by K. Dasing. There being no further business to discuss, meeting was adjourned at 09:55 hrs.
