Chapter 38 Reading of Minutes: Minutes for previous meetings were distributed.No action taken as we lack a quorum today Program/Presentation of the Month: Homeless Veterans in the Mesilla Valley Pam Angel, Director of Community of Hope Homeless persons, including a number of Veterans, are living in a camp near the city's solid waste facility near Amador Ave. (this is one of three that next to I-10). Pam has attended a meeting with Highway Dept. (NM DoT ?)that they have a plan is to bulldoze 3 miles on their right of way to eliminate the cover that hides the camps from view. Codes Enforcement of City of Las Cruces has approached the homeless individuals to force them out. Local print media has covered this and has increased the attention to this situation. A meeting is planned to meet with get this resolved in a positive way. The meeting is scheduled at 11 am of April 2nd in Resource Room at Community of Hope. The status of housing being available for homeless persons including Veterans is being reviewed as well. Old Business: Plans for 2010 : Number of items were listed on agenda to work on for the upcoming year including but not limited to: Veterans Corner update and keep the website current. Walk of Honor The new brochure was reviewed and comments made on how to improve it to make less confusing with the Memorial Wall. Pictures in the W. of H. brochure will only show pavers and/or Veterans and not a shot of the Memorial Wall or any other monument in Veterans Memorial Park. Holiday Flag Schedule Distribute the schedule for 2010 Page Two of VAB minutes of March 23rd 2010 Old Business continued: United Veterans Council: Second Tuesday of month at 6:30 pm V. F.W. 2001 N.Mesquite St. Calendar of Events: We need to submit events early as possible to get the most coverage that we can and to support each others activities. The calendar for 2010 is open for input to list events and activities that we schedule on an annual basis. New Business: Chair asked each representative to identify any upcoming activities.
