09-28-2010 Las Cruces Veterans Advisory Board Minutes of September 28, 2010 Open Meeting: The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m., and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Old Business: The schedule was reviewed for raising and lowering the Garrison Flag at the Veterans Park. New Business: LA copy of Council Bill No. 09-049, Ordinance No. 2512,which authorizes the Veterans Advisory Board, and oulines the duties of the board was presented to everyone present. A brief discussion was conducted concerning the board's duties. 2. Travis Brown was introduced as the Las Cruces Staff representative to the board. 3.Basic information was announced concerning the Veterans Day Parade, scheduled for Saturday,November 13, 2010. The Garrison Flag will be flown on Thursday,November 11, 2010. The parade is being organized and managed by Bill Hawkins, and an official web site is open for all participants to register. His telephone number is (575) 621-7002. The official web site is www.lascrucesvetday.org. Good of the Veterans Veterans Organizations: 1. American Legion Post 10 reminded that the post has a garage sale on the First Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m.to noon. 2. VFW Post announced a "Buddy Poppy" sale on Saturday, October 2,2010. Community Organizations: 1. J.R.Turner announced that Virginia Bell was leaving his office and moving to a similar job in Palm Beach, Florida. 2. Mesilla is having a Veterans Day Ceremony at their Flag Pole on November 11,200 - followed by free dinners for veterans at Andele's Restaurant. 3. Dolores Archuleta announced that there will be a dedication ceremony for the erection of a flag pole at Klein Park at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday,November 11, 2010. 4. Dolores also announced that COL(Ret)Joe Long, USMC will conduct a briefing concerning the plans for development of the New Mexico Veterans Museum - to be held at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Museum on October 5, 2010. Announcements Frank Geisel announced that he will be resigning from the Board. The resignation will become effective at the conclusion of the meeting. The next meeting will be at 9 a.m. on Tuesday,October 26,2010. Meeting was closed.
