PRIORITY DEVELOPMENT PROCESS Discussion centered on how the City of Las Cruces would work with the Government Department, Community Development Advisory Committee, and Community Development Staff to develop new priorities for the Consolidated Plan. The City of La Cruces will hold Public Hearings at neighborhood dates and locations as listed below. Items on the public hearing agenda are: 1 an amendment for previously allocated HUD funds and, 2. the allocation of current year funds. City Councilors will be available a these meetings to hear the opinions of constituents. Proposed amendment. The City will accept comments on a proposed amendment about how prior year funds will be spent. The City is proposing to reprogram $700,000 of HUD funds that were originally allocated for street, downtown revitalization anc emergency shelter improvements. It is proposed that the $700,000 be used for a loan to Casto Travel Inc. to cover expenses of starting a new business in Las Cruces and provide new jobs for low income individuals. The repaid loan will fund additional CDBG projects. Current year funds. This year the City will receive $1,224,000 of Community Development Block Grant funds and $407,000 of HOME funds. Before deciding how to spend this money, the public is invited to share with Council where and how this year's funds should be spent.
